Opening the Archives: 30 Years of Whole Brain® Thinking at Work

Founded by Ned Herrmann in 1981, Herrmann International will be celebrating 30 years of Whole Brain® Thinking in 2011. As we lead up to our 30th anniversary next year, we’ll be sharing memories, mementos and a glimpse into the historical archives of Herrmann International, the HBDI® and Whole Brain® Thinking.

A Whole Brain® Fashion Statement

When Ann Herrmann-Nehdi made a presentation at a manufacturing plant several years ago, the plant members went the extra mile to make her feel welcome. And they provided her with this particularly thoughtful accessory: a hard hat with Whole Brain® style!

Some 28 years ago, I spent an entire day with Mr Herrmann. I still remember the chills I had throughout the day as he gradually unfolded his thinking and strategies for brain mapping. I wouldn’t have missed this day for the world. It was right up there with spending time with Ghandi or the Dali Lama…

After reading Ned’s book “The Creative Brain” I was so inspired that I contacted him when he was on tour in London, UK and met him and Margy at their hotel. I then signed up to attend his one week ACTAL program at Lake Lure in May 1991.

I arrived back in London to start work as a coach and career consultant with KPMG and integrated the HBDI into my work with numerous clients. Since then the HBDi has become my preferred tool for assisting executives and teams in their professional development. I remember with fondness my time with Ned and he continues to be a great inspiration to me personally and professionally.

It’s time I made it back to the HQ, and the 30 year anniversary sounds like a perfect time. Maybe I’ll make the trip in my vintage VW, to celebrate it’s 40th birthday!
